One of our favourite tapas dishes here in Granada is this simple mix of potato, green pepper, onion and garlic. It does sound very simple, and the name of the dish translates roughly as ‘poor man’s potatoes’ or literally potatoes to the poor.

Sunday was Andrew’s Birthday, and it is probably fair to say that we both felt a little bit jaded on that morning. We didn’t drink that much, but the effects are amplified in the heat unless alcohol is accompanied by litres of water!
An important ingredient is missing from this account. This weekend in Madrid also happened to coincide with Andrew's 42nd Birthday (I know; he's very old)...
Neither Andrew nor I had ever been to Madrid before, and this city was most definitely on our ‘wish list’ for this year in Spain. It just so happened that 2017 saw Madrid hosting World Pride so it seemed sensible to combine the two!
Despite temperatures consistently in the mid to high 30s here in the valley, the past couple of weeks have seen a flurry of activities on the bar front...
The Cabo de Gata area is not large. That said, the coastline is dotted with many, many beaches and coves, and it would be impossible to explore them all over the course of just 1 or 2 days...but we gave it a pretty good shot!
Lunch in Tabernas was not successful. For some reason, the tapas we had (Chorizo) tasted of fish, so we didn’t linger...
Exciting news! A new bar has just opened up in Restábal, our closest neighbouring village, and within easy reach on foot...
If the impressive gateway bridge was anything to go by, we were in for a treat and Cadiz does not disappoint...
